Great Deal of the Day...

We joined a veggie co-op. It's been fabulous for our family. Some aren't sold on the idea, but we are, and we love it! Every other Saturday I head out to the pick-up site (they are located all over), my laundry basket in tow, wait in line for a few minutes and then pick up 40-50 lbs of produce for...drumroll please....$16.50. Now, in all fairness, there have been a few bad apples among the bunch, if you know what I mean. We had a cantaloupe that was on it's way out, a orange that went moldy way to quick, and some fruits that weren't their ripest due to being out of season. But all in all, we love it! And, even if you throw away 1/4 of the stuff, you're still getting a great deal.

Yesterday's pick-up included:

8 gala apples
3 lb. strawberries
bag of pears
8 bananas
7 oranges
2 mango's
2 zucchini
1 spaghetti squash
1 head of lettuce
1 bag of russet potatoes
5 red onions
6 yellow onions
1 head of broccoli
1 eggplant
fresh parsley, rosemary, and thyme
1 orange pepper
4 tomatoes
2 heads of garlic

Previous pickups have had many of the same items plus:
celery
brussel sprouts
yellow squash
butternut squash
limes
lemons
clementines

You never know what you're going to get, but your guaranteed to get right around 50 lbs. It's fabulous! If you are interested in joining, visit http://www.bountifulbaskets.org/ and see for yourself if it will work for you!

Great Deal of the Day 2...

I miss a lot of things about Texas. One of them specifically being the glorious wonder that is HEB. I don't think one will ever find a better grocery store--fabulous fresh made tortillas, samples around every corner, awesome produce, friendly people...good times. However, I LOVE my local Dicks Market, and to be honest, they have better deals. Case in point (or is it case and point? I never know...)

Do you love Quaker Products? We love quaker products, and to prove our love we spent $40 bucks to get 40 cereals. Yes, you read that right: Quaker Cereal for $1.00!! And the oatmeal ranges from $1.18 to $1.86.

You can't beat that folks...so here's hoping you find great deals at your local Dick's Market today~!

A movie I would not recommend...

We had my little brother over this weekend while my parents went away. We rented a good old end-of-the-world flick, thinking it would be marginally cheesy, but entertaining nonetheless. Allow me to never, ever, ever recommend to you...

The Carriers

This movie was the classic end of the world, I Am Legend-esc movie. A horrible disease ravages the countryside and 4 youth are on the run to stay alive. This was a horribly un-fulfilling and depressing show! A brother ends up killing another brother for some car keys, they leave a girlfriend stranded in the desert, and at the end, when you would like some closure (i.e., reaching a survival settlement, finding love and being willing to die together, etc, etc), all you get is this... "And in the end, we were just two strangers who had nothing to say to one another. I was alone." It was awful! Don't waste your time or money on this movie!

Have you seen my downstairs yet?

I don't think you've seen my downstairs via the blog yet...I don't have pictures taken of my family room-although it's lovely!- but here are some of Katelyn's room. I really wanted to do yellow and white in her room in Houston, but never got around to it. I wasn't going to wait in this home! My angel mother painted this whole room while I was home sick, and I love it! My spring project is going to be to make her a fuzzy, cute quilt, but in the meantime, I finally got to pull one of the hundreds I made in high school out! And check out the new carpet! Thanks to a huge blessing, we were able to get new(ish) carpet in the kids' bedrooms. I can't even tell you how much a relief and blessing this is. I have done gross things in my life, but pulling up the carpet from these rooms ranks in the top ten. I shudder to think that my kids had to sleep in rooms that were that nasty for two months. And I shudder to think what the other carpets in my home are like--the ones we haven't been able to replace yet! But I'm SO grateful that these two are clean and wonderful!
Anyway...

And, here is Josh's room with new carpet and a new dresser...the old one didn't survive so well...check out what happened to it when I tried to move it from his room to the hall for the carpet removal...oops! :)

Hope you all enjoyed the holidays! Welcome back to real life...!

Happy New Year!!

What a way to start the New Year...
my kitchen is clean
my floors are vacuumed
Christmas is all stored away for another year
the kids' rooms have new, clean carpet
yummy cookies just came out of the oven
and, best of all, my backyard looks like this:

I'd call this a very successful day! Welcome 2010!!
